WELCOME TO THE TEXAS TRACE KENNEL! The Texas home of Boykin Spaniel Puppies. The kennel name “Texas Trace” is a representation of the path or trail made by the passage of Boykin Spaniels from South Carolina to Texas. The Boykin Spaniel is a rare canine breed that continues to evolve. South Caolina is the orginal homeland of Boykin Spaniels, but Texas along with the rest of the nation has warmly embraced Boykins Spaniels into their homes and their fields. Our goal is to breed champion hunters with a household loving personality. We are conscientious breeders; breeding only occasionally and only to enhance the Boykin Spaniel Breed.
Our Philosophy
At Texas Trace Kennel, we don't just breed and train Boykin Spaniels, the Boykin Spaniel Breed is our passion! We consider ourselves AKC Preservationist Breeders, we are purposeful breeders, only selecting sires & dams with generations of documented health test and well-adjusted temperament for hunting and family companionship. We breed only occasionally and we only do so in an effort to advance the breed, to further the hunting instincts of the breed and with a focus on improving the health of the breed. Generally, those puppies are spoken for long in advance. Our commitment to our Boykins and our clients is unwavering, and we strive to provide the best possible experience for everyone involved.
Our Training Program
We have been dedicated to the Boykin Spaniel breed for over 25 years and understand all aspects of the breed. The Texas Trace Kennel training program is focused towards spaniels and especially Boykin Spaniels. We believe that they require a different approach than the hard line forced approach. It requires teaching, demonstration, ensuring comprehension with much repetition and positive reinforcements. Please visit our Training Page.
BSCBAA - The Boykin Spaniel Club & Breeders Association of America
We are proud members of The Boykin Spaniel Club and Breeders Association of America and also Texas Trace Kennel is part of the BSCBAA Breeder Directory Program. We breed first and foremost for hunting qualities. The Boykin Spaniel Breed has many capabilities including hunting, conformation, obedience, rally, working in the field, agility, pet therapy care, dock diving, household pet and much more. Our Facilities & Grounds
Texas Trace is a licensed private hunting preserve approximately 130 acres on Clear Creek located in Hempstead, Texas, Waller County. There are three open fields with good cover, great for upland bird hunting. There is traditional southern grasslands with gorgeous oak, pecan, elm and sycamore trees scattered throughout the property, great for field training. There are also several branch creeks that run through the wooded areas and a dog-training pond, great for water work. The Boykin Spaniel Breed truly performs well in this environment at Texas Trace Kennel facilities.
